Exercises, learning pathway, videos and animations for starting goalkeepers

Logically, it's wise to start off simple with beginner goalkeepers.
First let them get to know the basic skills and then (try to) master the various techniques.

To lay a good foundation, www.keeperstrainer.com/en/ has developed a theory and practice section for beginner goalkeepers.

  • We have recorded a series of basic technique videos that the goalkeeper trainer (possibly) can watch together with the beginner goalkeepers.
  • The exercises on the website are categorized for training at different levels.
  • You can follow our "Learning pathway" for beginning goalkeepers or select appropriate exercises yourself.
  • The animations on the website give the beginning goalkeeper guidance on what position to take in different game situations.

" The theory" for beginner goalkeepers

In the basic techniques videos and animations we focus on the following subjects:

  • The starting position in the different skills and positions,
  • Catching techniques
  • Falling/diving
  • Throwing/rolling
  • Passing/crossing/corner kicks
  • Through balls
  • 1 vs 1
  • Position of the goalkeeper
  • Organization.

In addition, there are videos on the website that focus on footwork.
Footwork, coordination and motor skills are important elements for beginner goalkeepers.
By using clear videos of exercises www.keeperstrainer.com/en/ pays a lot of attention to these aspects.

"The practical" for beginner goalkeepers

On www.keeperstrainer.com/en/ you can choose between levels A, B or C. Level C is the most suitable for the majority of beginner goalkeepers.

Depending on the development of the goalkeepers you can then proceed with the exercises on level B or A.
You can select your own exercises and thereby create your own training(s) for your beginner goalkeepers or... you follow our "Learning pathway".

The "Learning pathway" for beginner goalkeepers has a build up with a common thread of the main moments of goalkeeping skills:

  • Through ball
  • Shots on goal
  • Building up
  • Flank balls
  • Footwork

The main elements of the learning pathway are repeated throughout the course and as you progress through the learning pathway, the level of difficulty increases.
In the "Learning pathway" several games are incorporated.
In this way, beginner goalkeepers develop their goalkeeping skills while having fun.

A combination of the "Learning pathway" and composing your own training sessions is also possible.

Beginner or experienced goalkeeper trainer?

In theory every enthusiastic trainer (soccer player) can start working with the exercises from keeperstrainer.com.

The "learning curve" of the exercises is however also determined by the soccer background of the trainer. A trainer with a goalkeeper background will probably be able to teach the goalkeepers more specific details than a trainer with a background as a field player.

The goalkeeper background of the trainer is less important when using the exercises on www.keeperstrainer.com/en/ .
The enthusiasm and attitude of the trainer in combination with the points of concern described in the exercises are an even more important factor to increase the "learning effect" of the exercises.
